Eugene H. Turner Sr., a DeSoto County icon, 92, passed peacefully at his home in Arcadia, Florida.
Gene was born June 19, 1924, in Arcadia to the late John and Virginia (Moore) Turner.
He was a graduate of DeSoto County High School, Class of 1942. He was an entrepreneur, having succeeded in the areas of citrus production, cattle ranching and real estate brokerage. He was also Veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene enjoyed a full, rich life and loved his family more than anything. In his free time, Gene was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed offshore fishing and hunting. He lived his entire life in Arcadia and called it “God’s Country.” Gene was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Pine Level United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Gertrude “Trudy” Huber Turner, of Arcadia; his daughter, Lana Jean Turner, of Sarasota, Florida; his son, Eugene H. “Brother” (Jane) Turner Jr., of Arcadia; his brother, Philip (Shirley) Turner, of Arcadia; five grandchildren, Eugene H. “Trey” (Tammie) Turner III, Lindsay (Perry) Turner Mason, Luke E. (Beth) Turner, Logan M. Turner, and Landon B. Turner; and four great-grandchildren, Eugene H. “Hal” Turner IV, Kameron G. Turner, Layla M. Turner and Elliott G. Turner.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 North Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266.
Funeral services will be officiated by Dr. G. Odell Miley at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Pine Level United Methodist Church, 9596 N.W. Pine Level St., Pine Level, FL 34266.
