Margaret J. Hollingsworth, 87, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at her home in Arcadia, Florida.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1929, in Carney, New Jersey, to Joseph F. and Margaret Raksanyi Lefebvre.

Known to her friends and family as Peggy, she moved to Arcadia at the age of two from New Jersey. She built her life in Arcadia where she met and married Shelby Hollingsworth. Peggy, who was a homemaker, raised four children on the family homestead in Pine Level, was active in her church as well as found the time to be a Girl Scout-Brownie Leader and a 4-H Club leader for DeSoto County. At the time of her passing, Peggy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia.

Peggy found great joy from the people in her life. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Over the years, many organizations benefited from her kind heart, her quick wit and her affectionate personality. She found great fulfillment volunteering with the local elementary school and spent many years working to make children’s days brighter. Peggy led an active social life as well and was a member of Arcadia Women’s Club, Garden Club, Red Hat Society and Century 21 Literary Club.

She was quite talented in her many hobbies. She loved to sew, knit, garden and cook. She was always baking or cooking something to give to her loved ones. Not only did her friends and family have tokens of her knitting and sewing, but she spent some of her later years knitting blankets for our local hospital obstetrics ward and other organizations. She cultivated many a vegetable in her little garden at her home and worked tirelessly to perfect the art of growing roses and orchids. She would say the jury is still out on those roses, but her family can attest, she had a special touch with growing anything she touched.

She is survived by one son, Richard “Keith” (Lynn) Hollingsworth of Arcadia, Florida; three daughters, Theresa (Carroll) Wheeler of Arcadia, Connie (Tim) Yauilla of Kansas City, Kansas, and Lisa (Mitchell) Nott of Arcadia; one sister, Beverly (Bloss) Lanier of Valdosta, Georgia; 10 grandchildren, Jessica L. (Lewis) Ritch, Brian C. Wheeler, Chad J. (Cortny) Hollingsworth, Richard S. (Aby) Hollingsworth, Courtney T. Nott, Kasey N. Nott, William “Brad” (Meagan) Yauilla, Crystal L. (Chris) Brantley, Sterling L. (Ryan) Young and Tiffany R. Coan; and 12 great-grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, George “Shelby” Hollingsworth; parents; brother, Joseph Donald Lefebvre; and sister, Madelyn Hayden.

A visitation of family and friends will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral Services will follow the viewing at 10 a.m. at the chapel with the Rev. Jerry Waters officiating. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia.
