Darlene S. Davis, 72, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Arcadia, Fla.

Darlene graduated from DeSoto County High School in 1959. Shortly after high school, a mutual friend, Larry Whidden, introduced Don to Darlene, and that was it! The couple were married and moved to Zolfo Springs, Fla., to take over his family’s ranch and raise their family. She was of the Presbyterian faith, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Avon Park, Fla.

Darlene was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She worked alongside Don every step of the way. She loved cattle with a passion, and had a special place in her heart for the 4-H, and was a leader of the Charlie Creek 4-H Club for 25 years. Darlene played a very important role in the development of the Hardee County, Fla., Cattleman’s Arena in Wauchula, Fla., and was a founding member of the Hardee County Cowbelles Association, helping however she could.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald Davis; son, George (Sunni) Davis; daughter, Betsy (Michael) Damboise; and grandchildren, Loni Damboise, Kade Damboise, Sarah Davis and Sam Davis.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Darlene’s life will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, with the Rev.
