Densel Ray Dees

Densel “Ray” Dees, 79, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, in Sarasota, Fla.

He was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Arcadia, to William and Gladys Cunningham Dees.

Ray was a graduate of DeSoto County High School, Class of 1952. He was a retired life insurance agent, having worked 20 years for Independent Life Insurance Company. Ray also worked for Bethel Farms, Sod and Citrus Company for 15 years and for McBee Citrus Harvesting Company for another 10 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 101st Airborne Division. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football on TV. He loved to have breakfast each morning with his buddies at the former Louise’s restaurant and then at Wheelers.

He is survived by his son, Craig (Linda) Dees, Arcadia; daughter, Barbara (Ed) Norris, Arcadia; sister, Hazel (Danny) Ebersole, Lakeland, Fla; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Kim) Bergens, Brian Dees, Christopher (Shantel) Dees, Joshua Dees, Abby (Ed) Kielarowski, and Lindsay (Steve) Norris; and eight great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Dees; brothers, Tommy and R. L. Dees, and William Leonard Dees, Jr.; and his beloved wife, Mary Ann Dees.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL.
