Alan Roger Jones, 69, of Arcadia, Fla., peacefully passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, surrounded and comforted by his family at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born in Bournemouth, England, May 31, 1944.

On May 24, 1952, days before his 9th birthday, he arrived with his parents, Cecil and Gladys, and his sister, Jennifer, in New York City on The M.V. Georgic. They settled in Canada where his brother, Paul, was born in 1959. Alan served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., in 1965, where he met his wife, Carol Ann Baxter.

Alan and Carol were married June 8, 1967, and spent 46 loving years together. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Timothy (fiancée, Annette Webb) Jones, Robin Segroves (Christopher) Davidson, and Kimberly (Thomas) Jones-Beilstein. Alan loved and cherished each one of the their seven grandchildren, Brendon Alan Segroves, Amanda Ann (Nicholas) Selwyn, Megan Ann Jones, Nicole Ann Segroves, Timothy Alan Jones Jr., Lilley Kathryn Jones, and Parker Alan Jones.

He began his career with Orkin Exterminating Company in 1968 until 1985 when he started his own business, Jones Exterminating Company, in Arcadia. Alan always said his customers were not just clients, but his friends. They knew when he arrived at their homes, because they would hear him “whistle while he worked.” He retired December 2012.

Alan will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will forever live within our hearts.

A private celebration of Alan’s Life will be attended by family. In lieu of flowers, because of the kind and compassionate care extended to Alan and his family in his final days, donations can be made in his name to Tidewell Hospice-Port Charlotte, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
