Harvey N. “Bo” Keen, 80, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Bo was born Sept. 5, 1933, at the family home in Pine Level, Fla., to Harvey W. and Fannie Mae Albritton Keen.
At a very young age, he began riding and working horses. Bo joined the U.S. Army in the early 1950s (the only time that he was away from DeSoto County, Fla.,) and, in 1955, he married Carrie Eleanora Griffin. Bo was one of the last old-time cow hunters, and was employed by several large ranches over the years, before working his own ranch. He was a hardworking family man, loved making others laugh with his jokes and pranks, and enjoyed fishing and hunting when he found time. Bo was an extremely loving husband, a role model for his sons, and a wonderful Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bo is survived by his sons, Newt (Linda) Keen of Arcadia, and Tim Keen of Arcadia; grandchildren, Jenny (David) Cross, Kristen Keen, Destiny Keen, Stormy Keen and KC Keen; great-grandchildren, Clint and Harley Cross; sister-in-law, Theda (Lee) Swails; nephew, Bill Hollingsworth; and niece, Eula Mae Sides. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Carrie Keen, who passed Jan. 1, 2014; his parents; and sisters, Hazel Van Metre and Christine Forester.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia.
