Jose C. Velasco, 76, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Arcadia, Fla.
He was born July 18, 1937, in Mexico, and moved to Arcadia more than 30 years ago from Mexico.
Jose was a worker for a local sod company. He enjoyed working around the house, planting flowers and recycling things that could be repaired. Jose also enjoyed quality time with his family. He looked forward to going out to eat with them, and traveling back to Mexico on vacations. Jose was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Adelina Munoz de Velasco of Arcadia; seven sons, Macario (Esperanza) Velasquez of Fort Worth, Texas, Lino (María de Jesus) Velasco of Arcadia, Pedro (Emilia) Velasco of Mexico, Juan Velasco of Arcadia, Martin Velasco of Fort Worth, Panfilo (Blanca) Velasco of Arcadia, and Luis A. Velasco of Arcadia; four daughters, Maria G. Velazco of Arcadia, Silvia (Juan) Hernandez of Arcadia, Liliana (Rodolfo) Ramirez of Plant City, Fla., and Bianca Velasco of Arcadia; three brothers, Seferino (Ivon) Velasquez, Jose (Maria Magdalena) Velasco and Jesus Velasco; three sisters, Maria (Antonio) Velasquez, Evangelina (Jose) Pineda and Hipolita Velasco; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Nicanor and Josefa Munoz Velasco.
Visitation will be conducted from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery.
