Virlie “Alouise” Harrell Salsberry, 92, of DeSoto, Fla., passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Ft. Myers, Fla., moving to DeSoto County, as a young girl.
Alouise retired from the G. Pearce Wood Memorial Hospital as a telephone operator. She enjoyed camping, traveling to the mountains, crocheting, and most of all, spending quality time with her family. Alouise was of the Church of God faith, attending both the Arcadia Church of God and Sandy Baptist Church, Sandy, Fla.
Survivors are a son, George Robert (Diana) Harrell; two daughters, Alice Fay (Doyle) Williams, and Gail M. (D. W. “Buster”) Hughes; 12 grandchildren, Debbie (Dwayne) Darty, Becky (David) Israel, Janet L. (Tim) Westberry, Phillip L. (Lisa) Williams, Kimberly (Mike) Borzeka, Danny (Dawn) Albritton, Vicki Kersey, Mark (Connie) Albritton, Donnie Hughes, Joshua (Aimee) Hughes, Brent Hughes, and Ashley (Vincent) Derheim; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren on the way. She leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Alouise is preceded in death by her two beloved husbands, George E. Harrell (1969) and Donald Reed Salsberry (1996); her parents, Stephen O. and Alice (nee Mathis) Sloan Sr.; a baby son, Dale Mitchell; a daughter, Rose Marie Albritton; and a granddaughter, Karen Wiggins.
Visitation will be conducted at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday June 23, 2014, from the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 , at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, with Bishop Doyle Williams and Bishop Phillip Williams officiating. The Rev.
