The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Devontre’a Lamott Lashown Tyler, 23, on charges of felony battery and child abuse after he allegedly struck a high school student during football practice on Halloween night.

According to DCSO’s arrest report, witnesses said an altercation occurred between Tyler, an assistant football coach for DeSoto County High School, and a 16-year-old player. Tyler (who is 6-foot, 1-inch and weighs 250 pounds, according to DCSO) reportedly called the boy a “soft a-- b----” for missing a tackle. The boy replied, saying Tyler was “soft.” The two continued to call each other names; then Tyler allegedly started punching the player in the face. A witness said Tyler knocked the player’s helmet off his head when he punched him. Tyler continued to punch the boy until an assistant coach walked Tyler to his car.
