Arcadia man sentenced 6+ years for attempted murder

Jessie Alexander Lopez, 23, was sentenced this month to serve 6 years and 10 months after being adjudicated guilty of attempted second degree murder (a first degree felony) and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm or using a deadly weapon (a second degree felony). Lopez, listing an address on Orange Avenue, Arcadia, entered a plea of no contest and was transferred to the Department of Corrections on Nov. 21.

According to records from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, Clerk of Court and Department of Corrections, Lopez attended a party on Oct. 29, 2016. Witnesses said around 3:30 a.m., Lopez and others surrounded a man with whom Lopez had a disagreement. The victim, friends with the threatened man, came to his aid and tried to diffuse the situation.
