Raymond Kugler, 59, formerly the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office jail captain, was sentenced Monday in federal court to three years of probation, and to serve 150 hours of community service.
Kugler, who resigned his post by retiring last year, was implicated in the alleged jailhouse beating of Jody Holland. Holland, in jail after being arrested on charges of violating a domestic protection order, has said he was beaten by DeSoto deputies, while other jail personnel, including Kugler, said or did nothing or lied about the incident later in a cover-up.
