Arrest made in case of burned dog

Hope, a 50-pound dog who suffered substantial burns, is recovering at the BluePearl Veterinary Clinic in Tampa. She is reported to enjoy sitting on people's laps, and has ventured outside for brief walks as her injuries heal.

ARCADIA — The Arcadia Police Department arrested Larry Wallace, 66, on charges of second-degree arson and animal cruelty for allegedly dousing his dog with kerosene and setting her on fire on March 20.

The case has generated worldwide attention, as photos of the 50-pound dog, christened “Hope” by animal rescuers, circulated on the Internet.
