The man-to-man “press” defense used by the DeSoto County Middle School boys’ basketball team forces a lot of mistakes by their opponents, which allows easy points for the Panthers. This strategy paid big dividends in the 40-23 win over Hardee Jan. 9.

The Panthers have two sets of players who alternate during the game, with the hope the constant infusion of fresh legs will wear down the opponents. DeSoto has always been known for their speed and athleticism, and they used it to their advantage in the win at home.
