Archer unveils changeup in spring debut

Tampa BayÕs Chris Archer worked two innings against the Red Sox at JetBlue Park on Tuesday. He faced six batters and gave up one hit.

FORT MYERS—The Tampa Bay Rays would rather have Chris Archer try and fail then not try at all.

That’s what they told him, so that’s exactly what the 25-year-old right-hander did in the Rays’ 8-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at jetBlue Park on Tuesday. Archer has been working on adding a changeup to his arsenal, and he got a chance to try it out against the defending champions.
