PORT CHARLOTTE—Desmond Jennings put on some weight this offseason. The main reason for that was to anticipate his normal spring training weight loss and stay at his desired playing weight. The other reason was that he wanted to drive the ball more.
Whatever he did, it worked Wednesday against New York. The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder drilled a three-run home run over the boardwalk in left field during the fifth inning at Charlotte Sports Park, providing the big blow in the Rays’ 5-4 win over the Yankees.
