On July 16, Special Olympics Florida DeSoto County held its county golf games at the Bluffs in Zolfo Springs. The event was held there because the Arcadia Municipal Golf Course was under construction.

Opening ceremonies began with athlete Roy Engels leading everyone in the Special Olympics oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Special Olympics chaplain and New Day Baptist Church Pastor Ken Galloway then gave the athletes a pep talk and led them in the invocation.
