Casey Roberts, the man shot in the leg by a deputy last Friday during a domestic violence call, is lucky to be alive. Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said during a press conference Monday that law enforcement officers are trained to “meet deadly force with deadly force.”

Deputy First Class Eric Knapp, a 13-year Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office veteran, missed Roberts’ center of mass when he fired from 5 or 6 feet away and shattered the bone in Roberts’ upper right thigh.
