PUNTA GORDA — Sifting through a stack of old documents detailing a blockbuster — yet clandestine — development deal between the United States and Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War, a Punta Gorda Isles resident still doesn’t know why his firm was kicked off the project.

Ronald Robinson said he learned early one morning in 1976 that his employer, H. Chambers Co., a Baltimore-based interior and industrial design firm, was removed from a project to build the Moscow World Trade Center, which was completed ahead of the 1980 Summer Olympics.
