SARASOTA COUNTY — This week’s firing of Sarasota County Administrator Randall Reid has drawn criticism from civic interest groups and other members of the community, some of whom say it was a bad move for the county despite reasons given by commissioners.
Reid, 59, was fired Wednesday after a 4-1 vote by the County Commission. Commissioners pointed to how Reid handled the July resignation of former chief financial management officer Suzanne Gable, amid allegations that her CPA license was not current, and his failure to come up with a plan to help ease a prospective $25 million shortfall that’s expected in two years. Commissioners also pointed to employee morale issues, ongoing issues with mowing contracts, and stalled projects, such as $21 million in improvements to Siesta Beach, as more reasons for his dismissal.
