SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County Attorney Steve DeMarsh received a generally positive review from county commissioners last week, with most praising their working relationship with DeMarsh and his improvement on getting his office involved with county staff on commission issues.
The evaluations, which span from April through September, measured DeMarsh’s skills in commission relations and professional and management skills. Commissioners gave DeMarsh excellent and above-average ratings in most of the categories, with only Commissioner Joe Barbetta dipping into the satisfactory grade in three areas on commission relations and two areas on professional skills, including circling an option that said the county attorney needed to be more proactive to responding to legal questions from both the commission and the community.
