PORT CHARLOTTE — Members of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, along with members of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant this morning and arrested a local man on child pornography-related charges. In the latter part of October, the Sheriff’s Office received information through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Internet Crimes Against Children concerning possible child pornography images that had been posted to an Internet site originating out of the Charlotte County area. The case was assigned to members of the Major Crimes Unit assigned to the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force in Fort Myers.
During the investigation, detectives tracked the IP address associated with the suspected child pornography, as well as various email addresses, to Christopher C. Colangelo, 52, of the 25000 block of Harborview Road in Port Charlotte. At about 6:30 this morning, members of the FBI’s task force, along with members of the Sheriff’s Office’s Street Crime Unit, Computer Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, executed a search warrant at Colangelo’s residence. During the search, members of the Computer Crimes Unit located several instances of suspected child pornography. Three of the images located were confirmed as child pornography images and matched with images allegedly posted by Colangelo to the Internet site.Colangelo was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail on three counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of distribution of child pornography. He was being held on a total $15,000 bond. Colangelo’s computer was seized as part of the search for further forensic analysis. The investigation is continuing.
