Back-to-School Bash at YMCA

Anjanise Scholtz, 7, a second-grade student at Myakka River Elementary School, chose a pink camo backpack, and her sister Rhiesa, 6, a first-grader, chose a solid pink one, at the annual Back-To-School Bash, Saturday morning at the Englewood YMCA, where school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothes were given to local students.

First in line for the Back-To-School Bash Saturday morning were Linda Lista and her two children, Kaylee Mathew, a third-grader at Vineland Elementary School, and Julianna Mathew, a pre-K student at Vineland. The event took place at the Englewood YMCA, offering school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothes, along with entertainment.

Clowns like Nuzzles were on hand to paint the faces of students like Xavier Chavez, 6, a first-grade student at Englewood Elementary School.

Free shoes had Jesse Lattin and Caleb Joyce, both 12-year-old seventh-graders at L.A. Ainger Middle School, tried on shoes while Jesse's mother Lori Lattin watched with a big smile on her face.

The bash required a lot of volunteers. Members of the Lemon Bay High School football team worked setting up the event the night before, and these four, Justin Hinck, freshman, Brayden Curry, sophomore, Victor Mellor, sophomore and Jimmy Hinck, senior, volunteered for the early shift Saturday morning.
