Bridget Ziegler is in the unusual position of being a Sarasota County School Board incumbent seeking election for the first time.
She was appointed to the District 1 board seat in June by Gov. Rick Scott, to fill the term of Carol Todd, who resigned. She has three opponents for the nonpartisan position. There will be a two-candidate runoff in November if no one gets a majority of the votes in the Aug. 26 primary.
