Venice vets honored for their service

There were also some lighthearted moments in the pinning ceremony, such as when Mel Smoke pretended to put Edward Zanck's pin somewhere other than his lapel.

“Thank you for your service to our nation. Thank you for the sacrifices you made and your willingness to serve our country. When you see this pin, know that your service to the nation is deeply appreciated.”

Those words of gratitude were part of a moving pinning ceremony performed at Bella Vita senior living facility, by honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran Mel Smoke.
