Thousands of students from Charlotte, Sarasota and DeSoto counties are heading back to school today, and authorities are reminding drivers to remain vigilant and watch their speeds.

“It can sometimes take a few weeks for drivers to get used to the routine of having school zone lights flashing again at certain times of the day,” Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said in a press release. “So we want to remind everyone to remember to slow down and watch out for children, particularly at bus stops and crossing zones. If necessary, leave a little early so you don’t feel rushed.”
