Shark lore, Englewood style

I don’t mean to be an alarmist talking about sharks since some of us are headed to the beach today, but it seems to be an endlessly fascinating subject and we have had some interesting shark business here in Englewood in past years.

Englewood’s Bass Biological Laboratory was located on New Point Comfort Road behind where Merchants Crossing Shopping Center is today. It opened in 1931, but after founder Jack Bass died it geared down and was closed by 1944.
