The whole area of Placida is awash in history dating from the early 1900s, when it was a camp for hunters and fishermen. In the 1940s the true fishing community of Placida took wing and you can still see the fishing boats docked at the pier. The Fishery Restaurant was built in 1988 to capture that look and feel of the early years. Just coming to the area where Gasparilla and Placida roads converge, you get a sense of what Florida was like many years ago.
Brittany DeFalco, one of the managers, was telling me about a saying at the restaurant, “Where the view is naturally wonderful and our food is even better.” Besides being a manager she occasionally works the bar, where they have happy hour from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
