This photo was taken in 1900 by Eleanor Pearse from the porch of the early hotel, The Englewood Inn. It shows the surrey drawn by two mules that had transported Eleanor and her mother from the family yacht which was anchored in the Myakka River.
In 1899 you could have bought 10 acres of land near Lemon Bay for $30 per acre with only $30 down.
