Maybe because T.S. Eliot started his “Wasteland” with the line “April is the cruelest month” that the Academy of American Poets in 1996 decided to dedicate April as National Poetry Month. Poets love irony.

Wait. I understand. When poetry is mentioned, instinct says, “Run!”
