After my Aunt Bonnie died, a registered letter from her estate’s attorney notified me she’d left me $3,000. In my three-year pastorate at Christ United Methodist Church in Sanford, Fla., we visited my Uncle Charlie and Aunt Bonnie in their DeLand, Fla., home monthly. They were our guests for Thanksgiving twice, and every time one of them was hospitalized, we visited them.
Although I was surprised by her gift, I was more astonished at how my brothers responded to being omitted from her will. Rather than be joyful for me, they were jealous.
