‘I hate math.”
This phrase is one of the most emotional comments a student will ever shout. Frightening fractions, devilish divisions and massively long multiplication problems haunt us. After teaching math for 18 years, and now tutoring in the Math Lab in the Academic Success Center at Edison State College, I find this usually translates to: “I’m scared of failing math again.”
