Learn about sword fighting at Elsie Quirk Library

T he Southwest Florida Fossil Society offers a program for families from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants will enjoy a large exhibit of fossils that were found locally. Every child gets to take home a fossil! Parents can register their child online at www.scov.net/library by clicking on the Calendar and selecting this particular event. Don’t miss this fun Southwest Florida Fossils program! Also at 10:30 a.m., the Suncoast Writer’s Guild holds its monthly workshop where members can share writings of both prose and poetry. Prospective members are welcome to read up to two poems or 1,000 words of prose. Please bring copies of your work for the participants. At 1:30 p.m., kids ages 5 to 11 are invited to Lego Club. Legos are provided and kids can share ideas, make new friends, and work together to build amazing Lego constructions. No registration is required to attend.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, kids and teens ages 9 to 18 will love Paul Stonebridge’s “Pirate Sword Fighting.” Learn about the art of sword fighting and the different types of weapons used by pirates. This program is funded by the Friends of the Elsie Quirk Library and no registration is required to attend. At 5 p.m., come see a Free Monday Night Movie in the cool air conditioning. Tonight’s comedy stars Robin Williams. A penniless DJ is plucked from disaster by a homeless history professor who lives in a fantasy world of castles, red knights and damsels in distress. Together they begin a modern quest for redemption and the holy grail.
