Parkside gateway project vs. used-car lot

The Car Center of Charlotte County at U.S. 41 and Harbor Boulevard has new landscaping ordered by the county, but still more is required. The intersection is targeted for more improvements as it becomes a gateway into Parkside.

PORT CHARLOTTE — In May, when sales manager Leo Dickert moved his used-car lot from Peachland Avenue, where he had been for eight years, to a gas station on U.S. 41 that had remained empty and unused since being destroyed by Hurricane Charley in 2004, he looked forward to the added visibility and business his new location would bring.

But he knew there were challenges ahead.
