SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County identified what could be a key funding source toward building a shelter for chronically homeless adults in the city of Sarasota.
County Director of Homeless Services Wayne Applebee said Tuesday that the two boards currently are investing funds to evaluate possible sites for a shelter inside the Sarasota city limits. One site is on a privately owned parcel at 1800 East Ave., and the other is on city-owned property at 1330 N. Osprey Ave. To help pay for the shelter, the county has the opportunity to reallocate Community Development Block Grant federal funds for the construction of the “come-as-you-are” shelter.
