SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County commissioners continued voicing their displeasure with the Sarasota City Commission Tuesday on their handling of the homelessness issue, saying that some of the city commissioners are spreading misinformation on the problem and describing the situation as “toxic.”
During Monday night’s Sarasota City Commission meeting, City Commissioner Susan Chapman said that both sites the city and county are considering for a come-as-you-are shelter for homeless adults in Sarasota have failed environmental tests. Sarasota County Homeless Services director Wayne Applebee said Tuesday the sites have not failed any tests to this point, prompting County Commissioner Joe Barbetta to say it’s “just one piece of misinformation that’s out there.”
