PUNTA GORDA — Five hundred and one years after Juan Ponce de Leon's historic 16th century sail into Charlotte Harbor, he'll be back again March 29, in the Royal Order of Ponce de Leon Conquistadors’ annual re-enactment of his landing.

He won't be landing somewhere near Pine Island or Burnt Store, where history places his initial entrance into the harbor in 1513, after he had discovered and sailed around what he thought was an undiscovered island, resplendent with flowers at Easter time, which he named La Florida.
