Clearing ditches an ongoing task

A small drainage ditch has a tall, thick wall of cattails behind Alice Kelsey’s home on Denmark Street in Englewood East.She looks forward to when Charlotte County will cut the cattails back. Maintaining drainage ditches is an ongoing task for the county.

ENGLEWOOD — A wall of cattails 10 or more feet tall almost stands like a privacy fence in the drainage ditch behind Alice Kelsey’s home on Denmark Street in Englewood East.

But to Kelsey, the cattails are unsightly, attract snakes and vermin. She wants Charlotte County to cut them down.
