No injuries in Tuesday plane crash on Siesta Key

This replica World War II biplane crash-landed on Siesta Key Beach Tuesday afternoon. Both the pilot and his passenger escaped major injury, and no one was hurt on the ground.

SIESTA KEY — Two men escaped major injury on Tuesday afternoon when the replica World War II biplane they were flying in crash-landed on Siesta Key Beach, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Pilot Earle F. Swan, 75, of Bradenton, and passenger Martin S. Thomas, 51, of Cape Coral, landed on the beach after experiencing what Earle said were engine problems around 1 p.m.
