NORTH PORT — The State Attorney’s Office declined to file charges against a North Port man arrested last year on a charge of resisting arrest who claimed he was physically abused by the North Port Police Department.

Joe Gibson, 30, had wandered naked into the woods off of Interstate 75 last year in mid-December, prompting the police to launch a search. He eventually turned up by himself at his mother Stephanie’s Napoleon Road home, but was still experiencing bouts of mania, which prompted Stephanie to call police again in hopes of placing her son under a Baker Act for treatment.
