Margaret N. Fugate

Margaret N. Fugate, 96, died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte, Fla.

She graduated from Florida State Women’s College (FSU) in 1938, and moved to Boca Grande, Fla., to teach English at Boca Grande School until 1963. Margaret met the love of her life, Delmar Fugate, and married in 1940; they shared 60 beautiful years together. She was later the Librarian at Lemon Bay High School, then the Audio Visual Media Specialist for five counties, before retiring from Sallie Jones Elementary School as Librarian in 1980.

Margaret is survived by her loving son, Lee (Virginia) Fugate; devoted daughter and best friend, Betsy F. Jo Joiner; grandchildren, Lamar Joiner Jr., Mary Ellen (Andy) Shaffer and Meghan (Adam) Rymer; great-grandchildren, Randall, Austin, Travis, Seth and Emily; her special caregivers, Judy, Linda, Mary Rose, Sabrina, Cheryl, Jeannie and Don; and extended PJ’s Seagrille family.

There will be a Celebration of her Life in November. Memorial donations may be made to the Boca Grande Historical Society, the Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation, the Johann Fust Library Foundation or The Island School Foundation.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
