Nicholas Ondrej Andrews

Nicholas Ondrej “Nick” Andrews, 96, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

He was born to Anna Gresh and Andrew Andrews of Keisterville, Pa., Aug. 6, 1917.

Nick had six brothers and one sister who lived in the U.S., but also he had half-brothers and half-sisters who lived in Slovakia. Aug. 2, 1941, Nick married Helen Caroline Briar in Smock, Pa. Together they had three children: Ronald, Nicholas, and Barbara. As a young man, Nick joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and later in 1942 he served in the U.S. Army. As a coal miner he learned to work hard, but he also loved to learn. After attending business school in Cleveland, he worked for Nationwide Insurance as a salesman and district manager. Years later, he went on to sell John Deere equipment.

Nick and Helen retired to Rotonda West, Fla., to be near their daughter. He became a charter officer in the Rotonda Elks Lodge 2710, and later in 1988 he became exalted ruler of the lodge. Nick was appointed as district director of the Elks Youth Camp in 1995, and became a district deputy of the Elks in 2000. He kept a very active life and loved hunting, fishing, boating, and gardening.

Nick is survived by his daughter, Barb (Randy) Luciano of Englewood, Fla.; grandson, Nicholas (Jen) Luciano of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; granddaughter, Jessica (Jesse) Pasternak of Englewood; grandson, Dustin (Alyssa) Luciano of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Ann Yacyshyn of Sun City, Ariz.; two great-granddaughters, Sienna and Calista Pasternak of Englewood; and many nieces and nephews.

Nick was laid to rest next to his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen and their two sons, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Erie, Pa. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Nicholas O.
