Standoff ends peacefully

An 11-hour standoff ended peacefully early Saturday morning when a Punta Gorda man who had threatened to harm himself surrendered to Charlotte County authorities. The man, who lives on Marion Avenue, came out of his home shortly after 2 a.m. after talking to authorities and was taken to the county's crisis stabilization unit for evaluation. Here, members of the Charlotte County SWAT team discuss tactics Friday afternoon outside the man's home.

An 11-hour standoff ended peacefully early Saturday morning when a Punta Gorda man who had barricaded himself in his Marion Avenue home surrendered to Charlotte County authorities. The man, who had threatened to harm himself, came out of his home shortly after 2 a.m. after talking to authorities and was taken to the county’s crisis stabilization unit for evaluation.
