Arthur M. Folaros

Arthur M. Folaros of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Port Charlotte, Fla., serving as a member of the parish council and being an integral part of the church for many years. Arthur was also the past President of St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church in Hopewell, Va., for eight years.

Arthur retired from military service with both the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps after 40 years of service. He served in the 9th Air Force and the 320th Bomber Group during World War II, seeing duty in England, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. Arthur also served as an Army adviser to the Vietnamese at the onset of the Vietnam War, and was part of a military assistance group in Greece. Col. Folaros received two Bronze Stars for Valor, the Purple Heart, two Commendation Medals and the Belgian Fourragère.

During his last 15 years of service, he was assigned to the faculty of the U.S. Army Logistics Management College in Fort Lee, Va., where he served as Director of Administrative Services and as Director of the Acquisition Management Department. During his time there he received many awards, including six for being the outstanding instructor at the College. Arthur was very active in the Rotonda West area and served on several advisory boards for Charlotte County, Fla., having resided in this area for 31 years. He was always interested in doing whatever he could to contribute to the community.

Arthur is survived by his sons, Peter and Jimmy; and his granddaughters, Anna Sophia and Morgan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eva.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 2 Buchan’s Landing, Englewood, Fla. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 24411 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33980. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.
