Alan Frederick Hornagold, 78, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice after suffering from colon cancer for two and a half years.
He was born April 3, 1935, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, to Hilda Mae and Archibald Frederick Hornagold.
The family came over from England on The Queen Mary to the United States in October 1951. They then moved to Janesville, Wis. Alan served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, and learned a trade in the electrical field. He retired from General Motors in Ohio. Alan and his wife Shirley moved to Rotonda West, Fla., in 1998 from Bellbrook, Ohio. He loved Florida and grew beautiful orchids on his lanai. Alan and his wife loved to cruise every year.
Alan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; three daughters, Sheryl (Thomas) Lykins of Ohio, Sheila (Muhammad) Durrani of Ohio, and Suzanne (William) Hanfelder of Englewood, Fla.; son, Stephen Alan Hornagold of Ohio; brother, Harry Hornagold of Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and one step-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; and sister, Joyce.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Alan F.
