John Phillip Alsten, 105, slept peacefully into the Light, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Sterling House, Englewood, Fla.
He was born Nov. 29, 1907, in Worcester, Mass., to Alfred Alsten and Annie Johnson Alsten.
John trained as a cabinet maker and graduated from Worcester Trade School. He was an honorary graduate of the Class of 2013 of Mooseheart High School. John retired from the New York State Health Department in 1968 as Exhibit Supervisor, he moved to a home he designed in Englewood. His skill and effort was joyously shared with many individuals and organizations. He was a member of the Englewood Moose Lodge.
John is survived by his daughter, N. Jean (William B.) Airey; grandchildren, Phyllis (Taffy) Airey Wille, Paula Airey Scott, and Don Airey; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Appleton Hurd in 1982.
