Robert “Gordon” Knight, 92, of Lemon Bay Isles, Englewood, Fla., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, after a period of failing health.
Gordon was born Dec. 12, 1920, in British Columbia, Canada, the son of Thomas and Jennie Knight.
He served in the RCAF as a pilot during World War II. Gordon married Lily “Evelyn” Bonnell on Sept. 8, 1945, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He and his family lived in Melrose, Mass., before he retired from Snap-on Tools Corporation. In 1982, they moved to Englewood. Gordon was a former Treasurer of the Edgewater Club of Lemon Bay Isles, and a member of the Elks. He enjoyed making model boats, spending time with his family, and his little dog, Zoey.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Lynn (Dennis) LaBranche; son, Robert Gordon Knight Jr.; granddaughter, Kara (Mike) Judge; grandsons, Matthew (Sandra) and Ryan (Jennie); and great-grandchildren, Colin, Lily, Kyle and Philip.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
