George Ihlenburg Sr.

George Ihlenburg Sr., 89, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014.

He was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Farmingdale, N.Y., and moved to this area 25 years ago from Elizaville, N.Y.

Mr. Ihlenburg retired as an operating engineer for local 106 in New York. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 335, a member of Taghkanic Fire Company 1, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rotonda West, Fla.; he was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Manorton, N.Y.

Mr. Ihlenburg is survived by his daughter, Jean of Rotonda West; sons, George Jr. of Placida, Fla., and Robert of Englewood and Hudson, N.Y.; sister, Doris E. of Virginia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or Faith Lutheran Church, 551 Rotonda Blvd. W, Rotonda West, FL 33947.

Arrangements were made in Port Charlotte, Fla.
