Buena P. Beard

Buena “Bee” P. Beard, 89, of Elkhart, Ind., and formerly of Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Greenleaf Living Center.

She was born July 12, 1924, in Grand Rivers, Ky., to the Hugh and Alice (nee Duncan) Tidwell.

Buena married Robert E. Beard, Sept. 23, 1944, in Gary, Ind. They then made their home in Elkhart until retiring to Manasota Key, Englewood, Fla., in 1975. Robert passed away Feb. 22, 2002.

While living in Elkhart, they were members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and in Florida, members of the Englewood United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and beachcombing, but her favorite role was as “Mom,” “Grandma” and “Great Grandma.”

Buena is survived a son Jeffrey E. (Michelle) Beard of Nokomis, Fla.; daughter, Linda (Ray) Carris of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Jill (Jeff) Balcom, Michele (Gerald) Krueger and Jamie Maure; five great-grandchildren, Sydney and Charlee Balcom and Brock, Zachary and Trey Krueger; two brothers, C.O. “Ted” Tidwell of Annandale, Va., Dallas “Bud” Tidwell of Louisville, Ky.; and a sister, Wanda Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her brother, H. “Doyle” Tidwell.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be at a future date in Rice Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care or American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home.
