Katherine “Kathi” Draper VanTilburg, 64, of Englewood, Fla., passed peacefully Sunday, April 13, 2014, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born Jan. 26, 1950.
Kathi, originally from Michigan, was the oldest daughter of JoAnn and Gale Draper. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and friend, who was always known for (aside from having to manage two mischievous boys and a fun-loving loving husband) her warm smile and joyful laugh.
Kathi, for most of her life, was an Englewood resident and known by many. As her boys were growing up, she was a fixture at San Casa, taking in her sons’ games; selling concessions; or taking one, if not both, boys behind the concessions stand to discuss “opportunities for improvement” (Chris and Aaron were energetic, if you will). She was also there to support her husband George, a longtime Pop Warner football coach in town. In her later years, she was all over the Englewood area supporting her grandkids, Austin and Katelin Davis, in their athletic endeavors.
For those who know Kathi, she was always up for a good conversation. She was known as a good friend to many, and a stranger to none. Englewood will miss Kathi, but was better for having her as a longtime resident. Although Kathi will be missed, she will live on in the two amazing men she raised, a husband she supported, and a community that she influenced for many, many years.
Kathi is survived by her husband, George VanTilburg; two sons, Chris Davis and Aaron VanTilburg; brother, Marty Draper; and her grandchildren.
The family will have a “Celebration of Life” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Lemon Bay Park, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood.
