Virginia J. “Ginny” Tolliver, 90, of Venice, Fla., and formerly of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

She was born June 11, 1923, in Summersville, W.Va., the daughter of Other and Mary Jarrett.

She married James Augustus “Gus” Tolliver in 1942. They moved to Clayton, Ohio, in 1952, after Gus completed his service in the U.S. Air Force. Ginny worked as a cook in the Northmont School District until her retirement.

Ginny and Gus were active members of Clayton United Methodist Church. They loved to travel through the West. They settled in Florida in 1989, and enjoyed watching sunsets together on the beach. Ginny loved cooking for family and friends, and working with all kinds of flowers; she also cared for wild birds and sea turtles.

Ginny is survived by her daughter, Cherie Tolliver of Sedona, Ariz.; her son, Rodney (Rosemary) Tolliver of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Jennifer Betz and Kate Gills; and sister, Myrtle Workman. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Gus” Tolliver; and siblings, Pribble Keith, Floyd Jarrett, Homer Jarrett, Mabel Jarrett, Daniel Jarrett, Ocie Dolenson and Hattie “Jeri” Burns.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice. Gifts may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4365 State Road 776, Venice, FL 34293; or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
